European walnut live edge slab dining table

L 2.4m x W 1m x H 0.75m

An eight-seater slab dining table for a contemporary North London penthouse apartment.

The client wanted a natural edged slab table top in a timber which was neither too dark nor too pale. This European walnut features a stunning variation of tones and grain patterns. Making the most of the full length of the available boards required the incorporation of a number of natural knots and cracks. To minimise the risk of food getting unhygienically lodged in crevices, and to reflect the client’s vocation as a fashion photographer, we elected to work in a pixellated patchwork of small contrasting grain inserts - all from the same tree - at the gnarliest end of the table top. A more contemporary approach than using traditional butterflies/bowties/dutchmen.

The legs were custom fabricated from stainless steel with a dark bronze patina in a simple curved T-shape to allow the greatest room and flexibility for seating and seated diners’ legs.
